I have been lucky enough to be asked to work with a college out in Switzerland so with a few days to spare I thought I would chance my arm with a few days up high. A long sought after goal of the Matterhorn was not going to go (it is October after all – it can be seen in the background of the second picture) but I enjoyed myself. Ascents of Stockhorn (using a stick in lieu of an ice axe for the final snow arete – first picture), the Breithorn and then I was turned away by bad weather and too much snow as I did a valley bottom ascent to the Hornlihutte (bottom picture is as close as I got – about 500m away. 5 minutes later I couldn’t see a thing).
