Not a bad trip to the Orkneys

Ok, Tom Livingstone and Tony Stone may have bagged Long Hope route but Tom Rogers and I managed The Old Man of Hoy (yes, they did it as well) AND Yesnaby Castle. They were no doubt put off by the difficult tyrolean and swim approach and retreat and the technical climbing in the rain (probably).

A good couple of days which crapped out half way up the E2 5b on the south arete of The Castle but we were pleased and 24 hours in a bunkhouse got our kit dry. Lovely.

A small point – William Shearers are a huge grocers in Kirkwall and if you travel in by plane you will need to buy gas. You can arrange this in advance and they will leave it round the back for you to pick up out of hours if necessary. Good service.
